While that is no reflection on the purchase of a NEW unit... here are 3 things to consider which apply to both.1.There are 8 weak plastic tabs which hold the 4 metal feeder/guide plates in place. There are 4 for the back and 4 for the front. A jolt or drop of the unit such as might happen during shipping or transport breaks these tabs und renders the feed plates unstable. This could cause a document jam, or dislodge the plates if the unit is turned over. You would have to open the unit to reset the plates. 2. Although I have limited knowledge of the history of this unit the motor was locked up because of a broken internal offset gear, causing a grinding sound. This small Asian made motor is sealed and non-serviceable. This is not something that should happen for years under normal use and suggests a serious quality issue. 3. It automatically shuts off after a certain period of time so we don't chance leaving it on over night. We've had several laminators over the years and this one seals the best and produces the best finish product of them all. About 7 minutes for a low heat and 12 for high heat. Also, lately we've had paper jams and even when you reverse it, you have to fight with it to get your crumpled paper back. Seems to do better with thicker mil laminating sheets. The jamming problems happened with 3 mil. There's gotta be a better product for a similar price. Again, it laminates fine, but it's slow and a bit of a pain. |
